I'd like to move around by bike. Are there safe bike lanes all through the city? Can I use a fixie bike or should I use some kind of brakes? Thank you!

I know many people who suffered accidents riding on the road. I haven't ridden in Paris, but I have visited it and it doesn't look like a friendly city for bike riders.
